Editorial

The third & last item in my Feb '16 BNT Beauty Box is an anti-aging face moisturizer/wrinkle cream:
Hwajin Cosmetics Yeblang Special A Star Jelly Cream

Quite a mouthful for a product name.

Have you ever heard of Hwajin Cosmetics? I have not, but I am happy to add this to my beauty lexicon! Upon some kind help from Google, I learnt that Hwajin Cosmetics is a relatively new brand but its R & D laboratory & factory was set up since 2011 in Korea. It has since created several high quality skincare & makeup products; previously the ISILOE Premium Whitening Kit that I raved about HERE was in fact one of them!

Hwajin Cosmetics does not target merely on the Korean market, it aims to share the pie in Chinese and Japanese markets as well. If you understand Chinese, do check out this video and be impressed by their massive business presence. No English information available on their site yet.

Back to the cream, as evidenced in the above photos, Hwajin Cosmetics definitely doesn't scrimp on their packaging. Uncapping the exquisite, bright orange + subtle gold tub brought forth another level of surprise - product is tightly double-sealed! I have a penchant for all things clean, neat (yes, label me OCD if you must!) & colourful so this luxurious packaging almost had me sold! Well, almost.

Let's dive into the contents beneath that gorgeous overkill packaging, shall we?

Apparently, the jelly cream displays a hue as bright an orange as its exterior. A significant orange citrus-y scent wafted through the air, without me bringing the jar too close to my nose yet. #scentgamestrong

Notable Ingredients include:

Astaxanthin, artichoke, seaweeds extracts and "botox-like" peptides.

As per its name "Jelly Cream", the texture definitely feels more of a jelly than a cream, albeit one that is thicker in consistency.

MY THOUGHTS

The memory cushion texture of this jelly is a fun bonus point. Aren't you tickled to learn that memory cushion technology doesn't quite end at pillows & mattresses?

Underneath all that fanciful ingredients, super emollient texture and ornate packaging, the ONE simple yet most important quality of a good moisturiser is missing - cream absorbs REALLY slowly. You got to apply sparingly if you do not wish to wait for 15 minutes for a moisturiser to dry.

Let me show you the swatches to prove my point...

Such a quantity is fine for other moisturisers, but with this jelly cream, this amount is a huge mistake!

After application of a layer of cream, my skin instantly appeared orangey. Anyone can tell it is an obvious orange gel in the tub, but little did I sadly realised that the orange hue would somehow be reflected on my skin! 95% of the orange tone will gradually fade off after cream is totally absorbed though.

BUT absorption takes forever.

For the above swatch, even after 15 minutes, it is almost as wet & sticky as when applied. Noted the press release states "Its diverse moisturizing ingredients create a protecting film [...]" - yes, there is definitely a film barrier being felt on the skin. Film feels sticky to touch for approximately 15 minutes (if you apply a small amount), thereafter the facial skin does appear more nourished, soft, radiant & plumped.

I am betting this cream will be brilliant to use in dry climates or on dry/mature skins. My country of residence and skin type, unfortunately, fall in neither categories hence I can only reserve my 4-lippies rating till then.

Rating:

Due to its hefty price tag, I took a lippie off. However, if you've got cash to spare, have dry skin, need help for wrinkles, semi-obsessed with luxe/bright/regal packaging, you should consider this investment! (Miss Sunshine Queen makes me happy just by lounging on my vanity. But it practically makes my Mom happily glowing with her skin more plumped and less wrinkled!)

Price: about 8~90,000 won (not decided) *winces*
